Since the community’s opening in 2001, The Village at Sherman Oaks has been lauded for its unique blend of sophisticated style, unparalleled service and first-class amenities.
According to Mike Soto, the community’s executive director, The Village at Sherman Oaks and its sister community, The Village at NorthRidge, are the only retirement communities in the Valley to have pools onsite.

A tumultuous economy whose ups and downs were most heavily felt within the real estate market left many wondering if it would ever recover. Buyers concerned about restrictions in lending and sellers concerned with declining market values and buyer interest. Fortunately both sides can take comfort in knowing that our local market is stabilizing.

Though improvements in the real estate market provide hope for both sides, it doesn’t change the fact that the expertise of the agents involved remains an essential component of the process. When working with a Coldwell Banker agent buyers/sellers are getting a realtor that not only knows the market thoroughly thanks to on-going seminars, training and certification but also knows how to exceed client expectations.

Coldwell’s unsurpassed Team Burbank/Toluca Lake agents include: Southern California native and long time Burbank homeowner, Sandra Cusick (sandracus@yahoo.com – 818 489-8861) specializes in sales in the Media District (areas closely surrounding studios such and Warner Brothers, Disney and NBC) as well as the Rancho area. Barry Dantagnan (callbarrynow@aol.com – 818-314-2988), also a native of Southern California who has lived in Burbank thirty years, oversees home sales in the Magnolia Park area and Toluca Woods East. Lena Ohanessian (lena.ohanessian@gmail.com- 818-403-LENA [5362]), who has grown up in the San Fernando Valley, manages both single family and condominium listings in Toluca Lake and Toluca Woods West. Angie Simpson (agsimca@earthlink.net – 818 795-5590), Southern California resident for over twenty five years covers the Burbank Foothills and above.

Each rooted in the communities in which they serve brings exceptional knowledge of navigating the market to meet their client’s needs. No longer just a “buyer’s market” those interested in selling their home should take comfort in the stabilization of the market. Sandra Cusick’s listing on Orchard Dr. proves that multiple offers are still occurring. The three bedroom two bath home approx 1500 square feet listed at $574,900 received four offers within a few weeks and is currently in escrow above the asking price. Working with in-house lenders such as Bruce Nangle of First Capital Mortgage (818-528-3033) offering favorable interest rates as low as 4.25 to 4.35% APR and 4.5%/4.72 APR to $729,000 for thirty year fixed mortgages, sellers are getting offers and buyers are getting homes. Team Burbank/Toluca Lake are the agents to call for all your realty needs. For more information on the buying or selling process contact any one of the agents listed above.

Bruce Nangle at First Capital is a direct lender but also can broker to other lenders allowing clients more options.

Since the Falcon opened its doors almost thirteen years ago, its mission has remained the same: to make as many people laugh with live theatre as possible. Falcon Founders Garry Marshall and his daughter Kathleen Marshall LaGambina have been committed to cultivating comedy through the voices of veteran stage actors and newcomers alike – and this rare combination of experience and innovation is what sets the Falcon Theatre apart.

This year, the Falcon partners with its comedy cohorts Matt Walker and the Troubadour Theater Company, up-and-coming talent Annie Hendy, and long-time friend Rita Wilson. As a special treat, the second show in the Falcon’s five-play line-up will feature the gifted actress Stephanie Zimbalist in Tea at Five.

Tea at Five explores the more private side of Katharine Hepburn as she traversed the ups and downs of her star-studded career. Stephanie Zimbalist, star of countless stage shows, over 31 feature films, and the hit NBC series Remington Steele, has inhabited the Hepburn persona since 2006 when she first performed the show at the Ordway Center in St. Paul. Zimbalist will once again team with an old friend and collaborator, director Jenny Sullivan, to bring the show to Burbank.

“[Hepburn’s] vitality, her drive, her humor are inspiring. She was a strong lady!” says Sullivan. “It’s perfect for the Falcon and its audience. It’s a chance to spend some time with Katharine in an intimate setting very near the industry that made her a household name.”

In October, long-time friends and collaborators, director Jenny Sullivan and actress Stephanie Zimbalist are bringing Katharine Hepburn’s story to the Falcon Theatre in “Tea at Five.”

The 2010-2011 season continues the Falcon mission to cultivate comedy in the community – bringing a fresh mix of expert talent and rising stars to the intimate 130-seat theatre.

The season kicks off on August 11th with the Troubadour Theater Company’s A Wither’s Tale, a retelling of Shakespeare’s somber saga serenaded by the soulful songs of Bill Withers (“Ain’t No Sunshine”). Over the years, the Troubies have established their annual holiday show as a Toluca Lake tradition among subscribers and local residents. This December, the Troubies are offering a brand-new musical The First Jo-el, telling the story of the nativity with the help of the Piano Man, Billy Joel.

January will feature the new comedic talent of Annie Hendy in her play The Catholic Girl’s Guide to Losing Your Virginity, a sexy and irreverent comedy following a soulful Midwestern girl blossoming in the big city of her dreams. The season will wrap up with the international hit Jamaica, Farewell by Debra Ehrhardt, directed by Joel Zwick, and presented in association with Rita Wilson.

With a season packed with so many hilarious and heartwarming stories, the Falcon promises to once again bring its signature flair to the L.A. theatre scene – and did we mention they have free parking?

Electing to stay at home and age in place may seem a viable option for seniors, especially in today’s economy. However, it may prove less desirable than it appears.

First and foremost is the stress of renovating an existing home, an emotional strain most seniors would like to avoid. Unforeseen financial expenditures and significant decision-making, from selecting reliable contractors to managing a construction timeline to ongoing interruptions, may create unnecessary psychological and/or physical burdens.

“Renovating is like layers of an onion. One thing can be overlaid and dependent of another,” said Assaad Zeid, executive director of The Village at Sherman Oaks, a luxury independent and assisted living community in Sherman Oaks, Calif. “What might begin simply as the installation of grab bars in the shower can easily turn into the widening of doorways or the lowering of kitchen counters to accommodate wheelchairs.”

Top-notch senior living communities have been designed from inception with the senior consumer in mind. Smart planning, which includes universal design features, allows residents to age in place without the need for modifications.

Even if renovations can be accomplished, remaining in an existing home presents other challenges such as finding reliable caregivers or becoming socially isolated.

The Village at Sherman Oaks’ heated swimming pool offer residents a variety of exercise programs and classes from which to choose.

At continuum of care communities like The Village at Sherman Oaks, licensed nurses are available on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and offer residents a comprehensive menu of care services.

According to Zeid, free from the burden of home-maintenance concerns, residents at The Village at Sherman Oaks often experience an enhanced social life and find themselves with more time to enjoy the things they love.

“A senior living community offers significant benefits,” said Zeid. “From gourmet dining and resort-style amenities to a wealth of health and fitness programs, retirement communities offer seniors an excellent value. But more importantly, the lifestyle afforded by communities like The Village at Sherman Oaks provides peace of mind for the future.”

The Village at Sherman Oaks includes 239 luxury independent and assisted living residences, a wealth of services and amenities, plus a full calendar of social, cultural, educational, and recreational activities. Residents enjoy numerous resort-style features including: The Village Restaurant, open 12 hours daily, a fully equipped fitness center, The Albers Theater, Internet lounge, bank, market, mailroom, arts and crafts room, library, bistro bar, swimming pool and spa, a full-service beauty salon, and secured parking garage.
