The 4th annual Burbank International Film Festival OPENS TONIGHT Wednesday, Sept. 5, and continues through Sunday, Sept. 9, at the AMC Theaters and at Woodbury University. Over 100 films will be screened in over 30 categories. Opening Night, the festival is proud to present the advanced screening of the documentary film CinemAbility featuring Ben Affleck, Jamie Foxx, Gary Sinise, Marlee Matlin, RJ Mitte, Garry Marshall, and 30 other industry professionals. The red carpet will be buzzing!
On Thursday, Comedy Night will begin with the feature General Education starring Chris Sheffield, Larry Miller, Janeane Garofolo, and Elaine Hendrix followed by a selection of comedic short films. Dramatic films are showcased on Friday night with a selection of shorts and the LA Premiere of the feature film Ecstasy, starring Adam Sinclair, Kristin Kreuk, and Billy Boyd. The short films section includes a film by first time director/actress Bryce Dallas Howard (Ron’s daughter). Saturday is a full day of screenings, with student film, animation, comic book, and graphic novel presentations, followed by a screening of Morgan Spurlock’s documentary, Comic Con: A Fan’s Hope IV.
Saturday night will be the Night of Sci-fi, Fantasy, & Horror (Rector’s favorite since he’s not only the festival director, but the official spokesman for The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films which produces the Saturn Awards). Two features will screen as West Coast Premieres, In the Eyes of a Killer, starring and directed by Louis Mandylor, with Gwendolyn Edwards, James Marshall, and Costas Mandylor. The second feature is the horror/thriller Shiver starring Danielle Harris, Casper Van Dien, and Rae Dawn Chong. Along with the features will be an amazing selection of genre short films sure to inspire awe, or send a tingle up your spine. Sunday will end the festival with a special screening of the documentary from Rod Roddenberry (Gene’s son) of Trek Nation.
There will be parties following the screenings in a 6,000 square foot soundstage with a DJ and live performances by “Undercover Girls” and actor/musician Tim Russ (Star Trek: Voyager) and his band. Sunday evening is the Closing Night Awards Gala hosted by NBC weathercaster Fritz Coleman. The Awards Show will not only acknowledge the award-winning filmmakers, but honor industry professionals including screenwriter Robert “Bobby” Moresco (Million Dollar Baby), composer Mark Isham (Once Upon A Time), special effects make-up artist Rick Baker (Men In Black films), animation director Jennifer Yuh Nelson (Kung Fu Panda 2), writer, director, producer Matt Senreich (Robot Chicken), and actor James Hong (Blade Runner), to name a few.
