Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts (PSHA) is gearing up for its annual fundraiser, the Pasadena Showcase House of Design, which will be open from April 21 to May 19, 2013. Now in its 49th year, the Spring event will take place in the City of Arcadia at a stunning 1941 Monterey Colonial style estate that was designed by noted residential architect, Roland Eli Coate, Sr. Over the past several months, the estate has undergone a dramatic transformation at the hands of 27 prestigious designers and is a must-see destination for design enthusiasts and patrons of the arts.
The estate, a perfect example of Coate’s “California Style” with its infusion of various Colonial Revival stylistic features, showcases a two-story, 10,433 square foot home, several gardens, a tennis/ basketball court, a swimming pool with spa and a pool house, set on 1.79 acres amongst mature trees that add to its tranquil ambiance. The home was designed for prominent furniture executive C. Lawrence Barker, of the former Southland furniture company, Barker Brothers and was the site of the 2000 Pasadena Showcase House of Design.
The Colors of Showcase
Every year a new color palette is selected to reflect the latest trends and convey the House’s heritage. For 2013, visitors will notice a clean, soothing color scheme that complements the original architecture and the surrounding bucolic landscape. Through an exclusive partnership with Dunn-Edwards Corporation, 27 colors were chosen for this year’s palette, including 22 base colors in tones of soft grays, blues, greens, taupes and amethysts. The five accent hues skew brighter and more playful, adding pops of saturated color.
The Restaurant & Pub
Visitors are in for a real treat this year. Whether you are enjoying Sunday brunch or rejuvenating refreshments, you won’t be disappointed. Estate Catering at The Huntington will be serving savory sandwiches, fresh gourmet salads and a variety of warm meals and light fare. And if you’re in the mood to share a bottle of wine with friends, the pub, dubbed The Santa Anita, will be open.
PSHA is an all-volunteer organization with about 75 women and men with a myriad of backgrounds working together to accomplish the Herculean feat of producing the Pasadena Showcase House of Design.
