Tom LaBonge News
Greetings! Councilmember Tom LaBonge announced a 100-acre-plus expansion of Griffith Park when the acquisition of Cahuenga Peak was finalized in the City Clerk’s office this week. The annexation of the land adjacent to the HOLLYWOOD sign was made possible by a fundraiser to “Save the Peak” when previous owners threatened to develop the area.
Councilmember Tom LaBonge introduced two motions to create specific parking areas for food trucks outside of commercially zoned areas, study how other municipalities have worked to integrate the new trend successfully and establish fines for trucks that repeatedly violate city and county codes. The motions were sparked by the rapid increase in catering trucks in designated metered parking spaces outside high-volume business areas.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa joined Councilmember Tom LaBonge on Tuesday in announcing Baxter Bioscience, the global medical products and services company, will invest $400 million in their Los Angeles Manufacturing Plant. The plant, which is located in the North Atwater section of the 4th Council District, provides 1,200 jobs with an average annual salary of $79,400.
Councilmember Tom LaBonge will lead approximately 250 people including Consuls General and members of the international Sister Cities program on a hike up to Mt. Hollywood on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. If you’d like to join, please meet at the Charlie Turner Trail Head adjacent to the Griffith Observatory parking lot by 5:45. For more information, see the attached flier.
Night number two of Tour LaBonge, the Councilmember’s series of summer evening bike rides, will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at the newly renovated Shatto Park. Titled “Positively Fourth Street,” the tour will lead a group of approximately 100 cyclists on the new bike lanes on Fourth Street to the Miracle Mile. Interesting sites include the LACMA Urban Lights installation, a ride by the La Brea Tar Pits and a ride around Larchmont Boulevard. Tour LaBonge will take place every Wednesday until July 21st. Start summer with a splash at the Summer Swim Season Kick-Off at Griffith Park Pool, Friday, June 25, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Councilmember Tom LaBonge and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa join the Department of Recreation and Parks, LA84 Foundation and Kaiser Permanente to launch the pool’s opening. For more information, see the attached flier.
The Pass Avenue bridge is now open. The bridge, located in the North Hollywood/Toluca Lake area, has been closed since September as part of the Hollywood Way On-ramp Improvement Project.
