Councilmember LaBonge Supports Disability Mentoring Day in City Council
On Oct. 16, Councilmember LaBonge recognized Disability Mentoring Day before City Council. Since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990 as well as existing California disability rights statutes, more than one million people with disabilities have entered the labor force in our country, and are contributing to society and to their own fulfillment of the American dream. Disability Mentoring Day provided an opportunity for students and job seekers with all types of disabilities to gain insight into career options by spending part of their day in the workplace “shadowing” an employee as he or she goes through a normal day on the job. Councilmember LaBonge poses with students and job seekers to show his and the City of Los Angeles’ support on the enormous potential of individuals with disabilities and encourages everyone to work toward their full integration into the workforce.

No TRICKS, Just a Helpful TREAT!
GUYS IN BLUE SURPRISE THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS
WITH COMPLIMENTARY PUMPKINS THROUGHOUT OCTOBER!
Bring Helpful to Children’s Hospitals to Spread Halloween Cheer Across SoCal
WHAT: Halloween dates back to Celtic rituals thousands of years ago and has since evolved into a celebration characterized by fun kid’s activities, wild costumes, trick-or-treating and carving pumpkins.* But today’s weak economy may be scaring the fun out of Halloween. According to National Retail Federation, fewer people may be celebrating the holiday and most will be spending less this year.**
To help keep SoCal’s holiday spirit high, the Helpful Honda Guys, dressed in their popular blue polos, will be visiting over 20 pumpkin patches throughout October to surprise families with FREE pumpkins. Cities range from Ventura, Pasadena, Hollywood and Culver City, down to Whittier, Torrance, Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, Victorville, Riverside and Corona.
The Guys in Blue are also bringing Halloween to those kids in local hospitals. They will be surprising kids with pumpkins for decorating, complimentary costumes and Halloween decorations. Children will be visited at various locations including Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC Children’s), Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach, Maxine Dunitz Children’s Health Center at Cedars-Sinai, Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA, Riverside County Regional Medical Center, Huntington Hospital (Pasadena), and more.
Helpful clues around exact dates, times and complimentary pumpkin locations will be posted soon at www.facebook.com/

WHY: It’s their job to be Helpful. Have you ever seen the Helpful Honda Guys in Blue in the TV commercials, doing funny and unexpected acts of Helpful? The SoCal Honda Dealers created the Helpful Guys in Blue both in the commercials and in the real-world to surprise residents with unexpected acts of helpful on a weekly basis, over the last 7 years!
Complimentary pumpkins across SoCal, giving back to children at local hospitals, and pumping and paying for Honda driver’s gasoline are just a few of the many ways helpful teams are lending a hand over the month of October. In 2013, the Guys in Blue visited an average of 100 locations each week –from the Inland Empire and Riverside County to Los Angeles and Orange Counties– to do small and large acts of kindness. They can be seen visiting groceries and shopping centers to open doors and load packages for residents, handing out umbrellas and providing escorts when it rains, picking up litter around town, volunteering, hosting pet adoption events to find homes for animals, and more.
