Walking Cane Defense
Fall session for Oct., Nov., & Dec., is now open enrollment for classes in Walking Cane Defense for Everyone! This class will cover: the basic selection of a cane, both the advantages/disadvantages; power swinging, thrusting, blocking, and defending; self-defense techniques against weapon attacks; defense from grabs and attacks, tactics, and sequencing; all done in a cooperative learning system; taught by CaneMaster Instructor Toma Rosenzweig. Teens and others, who enjoy classical guitar presentations, are invited to attend a free concert at the Studio City Branch Library. Taro Wayama, who performed at a similar event last year, has agreed to present a cross-section of holiday songs. The composers represent Spain, Great Britain, the United States, Israel, and Ireland.
Mr. Wayama is a Japanese born guitarist/ composer. He is a winner of numerous competitions in both the United States and in Thailand; he has also played in Japan and Canada.
He has been honored with a “Best Original Score” designation at the L.A. Movie Awards for music used in the independent film, Anne Jennings. He is an active soloist and chamber musician, who often collaborates with clarinet, flute, and vocal performers.

Huntington Learning Center Honored
The City of Los Angeles, through the office of Councilmember Paul Koretz, 5th District, has presented a Certificate of Congratulations to the Huntington Learning Center in honor of its 15th anniversary in Encino. This coincides with the upcoming 35th anniversary of the nationwide network of 300 Huntington Learning Centers, the first provider of supplemental education services of its kind in the United States.
