Remarks from Councilmember LaBonge on Passage of NBCUniversal Evolution Plan
The Los Angeles City Council gave its unanimous approval to the NBC Evolution Plan today. The plan, which was forged from years of building consensus among various groups, will invest $1.6 billion into the Los Angeles metro area. With it will come the addition of tens of thousands of jobs.
“NBCUniversal is an economic engine for the San Fernando Valley and the entire Los Angeles region,” Councilmember Tom LaBonge said. His Fourth District encompasses a portion of NBCUniversal’s property; the rest lies within Los Angeles County. “I want to thank NBCUniversal for transforming its plan to focus on what it does best: tourism, entertainment, movies, and television. This was the right plan at the right time.”
An original plan to include a residential housing component in the studio upgrade was nixed after opposition was expressed by Councilmember LaBonge and other local leaders. From here, the plan goes before Los Angeles County for its own approval processes.
UCLA Holds Day with Local Government
It was UCLA Day with Local Government yesterday in the City of Los Angeles, and UCLA affiliates were at City Hall to connect with local government officials. Standing with Councilmember Tom LaBonge above are Felicia Brannon and Manny Baldenegro of UCLA. In the Fourth District alone, there are 8,911 UCLA alumni, 765 UCLA students, 2,690 UCLA employees, and 53 community partners. By the school’s estimation, UCLA’s direct payroll impact to the Fourth District is $121,864,663.46. That’s nearly a threefold increase over the former Fourth District. UCLA is a tremendous economic engine for this region, and Councilmember Tom LaBonge congratulated the school for all of its success.
