Inseparable Wings

The City of Burbank Creative Arts Center presents “Inseparable Wings,” an exhibition featuring seven of Los Angeles’ most prominent women artists: Carole Gillin, Sylvia Hamilton Goulden, Susan ‘Suki’ Kuss and Ellen Lane. The group of four women artists is celebrating their tenth year exhibiting together. The exhibit will also include guest artists Lee Goldberg, Andrea Raft and Mara Thompson.
The focus of the show is visual communication, combining wall work with assemblage and written thoughts. A group project explores the nuanced techniques of each artist, enhancing their individual voices yet working as a combined form of expression.
Their moving visual explorations of the Mother/Daughter dynamic have received high critical acclaim. Their exhibit this past January at the ArtCore Brewery Annex, “Voices,” examined the unusual aspects of their collaboration through artistic communication.

Opening reception is on Friday, September 4, 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The Creative Arts Center Gallery is located at 1100 West Clark Avenue, Burbank, California. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Please contact the Gallery at 818.238.5397 for Saturday hours and additional information.

Women’s Survival in Tough Economic Times

The first in this series, Lean Times, Green Times is presented in partnership with the Sustainable Economic Enterprises of Los Angeles (SEE-LA). Are current organic food trends and the preservation of the environment luxuries or necessities in hard times? Women often make the budget decisions about what and where food for the family is purchased. This program will ask: What are the real costs of our environmental decisions? What are the forces that drive which foods we choose: taste, health, or budget? What are the real costs and benefits of environmentally conscientious–driven decisions as they pertain to women and families? Are resources available to women to help them make these choices, and if so, are they practical?
Panelists will discuss the culinary history of the last 20 to 30 years, with specific reference to the organic movement, current trends, and how they affect women and family households. Followed by a “chef challenge” between Rachel Narins, co-founder of Chicks with Knives, and Pace Webb, Contributing Editor/Green Guru for TheGreenGirls.com.
