Silver Lake Community Meeting

More than 200 Silver Lake-area residents turned out for a community meeting Thursday night regarding ten recent street muggings in their neighborhood and in adjoining Echo Park. In each incident, a lone male was approached and robbed by what has been described as a group of young Hispanic men. Police believe the incidents were crimes of opportunity and are probably gang-related. The Los Angeles Police Department, Council President Eric Garcetti and Councilmember Tom LaBonge encouraged residents to walk in groups and take other safety precautions as detectives work their leads to identify and apprehend the robbers. If you have any information about these crimes, please call the LAPD’s Northeast Division Gang Detectives at: (213)847-4263. Tom LaBonge sought to assure the community that the City is working hard to solve these crimes.
