Studio City Library to Have Programs For Teens on Wednesdays
The Studio City Branch Library will participate in an online Summer Reading Program for teenagers. Teens will be able to register via the internet and have access to reading-related online games. All branches of the Los Angeles Public Library will be participating.
In addition, on the Wednesdays of July (starting July 8th from 3-4:15 pm), live singers and musicians from the L.A. Music Network will be performing music with teen appeal. The events will be held in the meeting room of the library. This series will culminate with an “Idol-like” finale with voting for your favorite performer on July 29th. Though Simon Cowell will NOT be present, the same high criteria for judging our performers will be applied.
Additional programs include learning about the history of rock music, and three karate demonstrations by the United Studios of Self Defense. You are invited to bring friends and to attend these events.
Library to Train Teen Volunteers
The Studio City Library invites teens aged fourteen to eighteen years of age to become volunteers at this branch of the Los Angeles Public Library. To do so, please call the library and speak to the Young Adult Librarian. Plan now to attend the training event, which will occur on Wednesday, July 1st from 3-4:30pm. As a consequence of the workshop, teens are expected to donate a minimum of 30 hours to the work of the library.
Volunteering is one aspect of the Teen Summer Reading Program, which is entitled, “Teen L.A.” Other parts of the program include reading voraciously, writing book reviews and posting them on the Library’s Web site, and playing library-related on-line games.”
