Free Poetry Contest

A $1,000 grand prize is being offered in a special poetry contest being sponsored by The Celestial Arts Society. The contest is free and open to poets of any age. Fifty prizes totaling $5,000 in all will be awarded. Poems of 21 lines or less on any subject and in any style will be accepted.
Entries must be received by August 10 and may be submitted by mail to Free Poetry Contest, 704 1st St., Golden, CO 80403, or enter at Your name and address must appear on the page with the poem. To receive a winners list, please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope with your entry.

Looking for a sweet way to cool off, Shia LaBeouf was spotted enjoying a frozen treat at Menchie’s Yogurt on July 26.
Joined by a mystery blonde babe, the “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” stud looked to be having a good time, chatting and smoking throughout the date.

City parks will be green again now that the City Council adopted measures (supporting Councilmember LaBonge’s initiative) to loosen water conservation measures for the Department of Recreation and Parks.
The parks will maintain water conservation standards without necessarily limiting their watering schedule to twice a week.
On Monday night, Tom recognized nine Olympic Community Police Station officers for an effective sting operation that netted the arrest of a drug dealer in a Koreatown apartment building.
On Tuesday, the Councilmember joined Wilshire area police officials in announcing a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of two known gang members for the murder of Noe Gonzalez, a security guard at the LaBrea Collective last October.
The last ride in the Councilmember’s series of summer evening bike rides explored Hollywood, Larchmont and the Miracle Mile on Wednesday night. Thanks to everyone who rode with us. Photos are posted on the Web site.
Tom negotiated an agreement to move the Los Angeles Marathon back to a Sunday in March. The Councilmember held a series of meetings with Los Angeles religious leaders, Marathon organizers, runners and others to work out an agreement that the race will be run on its traditional schedule rather than on Memorial Day, when it was held this year. The City Council adopted the agreement unanimously on Tuesday.
