A Sweet Design has been impressing Hollywood A-listers and Los Angelenos for over five years now. Known to never shy away from a challenging design, they pull out the power tools and any other props needed to create amazing center pieces. You’d think your cake was straight from one of the cake shows on the Food Network. What other bakeries might consider impossible, A Sweet Design gladly takes on.
Husband and wife team Joeleen and Miguel Medina juggle the joy of a six-month-old with a seven-day-a-week work schedule of cakes, cakes, and more cakes. Joeleen is known for her intricate piping design on wedding cakes and elegant celebration cakes, while Miguel hammers out sculpted pieces such as The Hulk or a life size guitar. “The Sweet Team” relies on each other to handle the 15-25 custom orders each week. They are a team of sculptors, artists, designers and cake lovers extraordinaire.
Their Facebook fan page is a must see for all news and upcoming deals. Avid followers can check in every weekend to view the latest videos of behind-the-scenes foot-age, check out recent pictures and share thoughts.

One of A Sweet Design’s creations.

“It’s the flavors that keep me coming back,” says one client waiting on this busy Saturday to pick up her shabby chic birthday cake order. “There is no way to describe the pink velvet signature cake. It reminds me of my childhood.” With so many options for fillings it’s hard to decide which one to select; The Bavarian Chocolate Chip is simply to die for, or the Nutella Buttercream, which you may just want to dig into with a spoon. Everything is baked on the premises for a quality product every time. “Quality matters the most,” says Joeleen about her cakes. “I am a pastry chef first, and flavor is so important to me”
Although A Sweet Design hates to turn anyone away, they do book out sometimes. It’s best to place your order with at least two weeks advance notice. Wedding cake and sculpted cake consultations book up fast. Customers certainly should book a consultation five months prior to your event date so that you still leave yourself plenty of time to think about it. Other celebration cakes can be ordered via telephone or email and require less lead time.

The shabby chic cake studio is located in Granada Hills at 17013 Chatsworth St., just west of Balboa Blvd. They can be reached by email at ilovecake@asweetdesign.info or 818-363-9825.
