I remember my grandma at the age of 55 as a beautiful woman who looked like… a grandma. No doubt, the times have changed. Average 50-60 year olds are still actively in the work force, and are not hesitant to date after a divorce. Our mentality has changed. We no longer have to disarm, give up and feel depressed as the days pass by leaving marks of aging. There is something to be said about aging gracefully but if there are opportunities to slow down the process safely, why not take advantage of them? There are so many tricks to the trade of clinical cosmetics. So many procedures can be done to correct, and more importantly, prevent the aging process.
Los Angeles seems to be a pioneer in this industry. I guess more people are consumed with looking their best in L.A. One may question our societal value system but the reality is that everyone strives to enhance his/her physical appearance not only for the sake of a first impression, but more importantly, to feel confident. No wonder cosmetic medicine is such a thriving business. Most medical doctors anywhere, from your dermatologists to pediatricians, are offering Botox nowadays.
I have been a part of BeauTech Laser Cosmetic Center in Studio City for the past six years. I am a registered nurse specializing in clinical cosmetics. At BeauTech, we take a lot of pride in what we do. We are proud to have loyal and returning clients. They are not only local residents but they also come to us from different parts of Los Angeles, and yes, different parts of the world, including Russia, Scotland and England. We help our clients to make decisions on individual levels, and we have no problems turning the client down when they “get carried away.” Our philosophy is to, most importantly, practice safely, and to provide an esthetically superior and natural outcome.
I am often asked, “At what age should one start resorting to clinical cosmetics?” It varies from person to person. Los Angeles, being a melting pot of many nations and ethnic backgrounds, we get various clients with different needs. I emphasize that it is important to have a consultation and discuss personal preferences and expected outcomes but there are some rules of thumb. The blue-eyed blonde girls pay a price for being popular in high school. They are more prone to sun damage and develop dynamic lines at an earlier age. On the other hand, Asians, Middle-Easterners and African-Americans start worrying about their wrinkles at a later age. The sex of the client is very important as well. Men tend to have stronger dynamic muscles than female. The bottom line is: your clinician will help you with your decision making.
There are few misconceptions about our business. Living in Los Angeles, we have many actor clients. At the same time, they are not the only ones concerned. People who are behind the camera, along with everyday people, are just as concerned about looking youthful. Another mistaken belief is that only certain types of men resort to aesthetic treatments. I have had many macho contractors with enough sun damage who are just as concerned.
In conclusion, don’t be afraid to venture into the world of clinical cosmetics. It may be more accessible and affordable than you think it is. And if your friends haven’t admitted to having anything done, since it is still such a stigma, and haven’t given you a referral, you can call us at BeauTech for a free and no obligation consultation.
