“A Vegas Holiday: Live at the Sahara!” Starring Jake Broder & Vanessa Claire Smith
El Portal Theatre’s Weddington Street Productions and Pixie Dust Storm Productions proudly present “A Vegas Holiday! Songs from Live at the Sahara” starring Jake Broder and Vanessa Claire Smith, featuring the stars and music from “Louis & Keely: Live at the Sahara,” at the historic El Portal Theatre Mainstage in North Hollywood. Luca Ellis will make a special guest appearance as Frank Sinatra. The 11-performance limited engagement begins December 19 and includes two special New Year’s Eve performances on December 31 at 4 pm and 9pm.
This award-winning show in its many incarnations had humble but explosive beginnings at The Sacred Fools Theatre in Los Angeles in 2008, followed by a successful run at The Matrix Theatre in West Los Angeles followed by an 8-month engagement at The Geffen Theatre in Westwood.
Winner of the Ovation Award for ‘Best Musical’ and nominated for 14 Los Angeles theater awards, “Louis & Keely” is now back on stage for one last round! With a live jazz band on stage every night, old standards like “That Old Black Magic,” “Hey Boy, Hey Girl,” “Just a Gigolo” and “I Wish You Love” keep your toes-tapping all night long.
“I found myself swaying from beginning to end in my seat, unable to sit still as the terrific seven-piece band, front-loaded with fabulous horns, kept the room aloft.”
—Charles McNulty, L.A. Times
“And having an onstage, seven-piece backup band (doubling as supporting players) doubles the impact, particularly with sounds so carefully modulated by musical director Dennis Kaye. A piano, two saxophones, a string bass, drum set, a trumpet and trombone, all on the stage… places us in the equivalent of a small recording studio. When the band hits its stride with enveloping riffs of Dixieland Blues and Big Band stylings, hang on to your seat. The musical current is that strong.”
—Steven Leigh Morris, L.A. Weekly
“The show that keeps on giving.”
