The 6th Annual Burbank International Film Festival (BIFF) will take place September 3rd -7th in beautiful downtown Burbank. Opening night at the AMC 16 Theatres will begin with celebrity arrivals, media red carpet and a special premier of the science fiction thriller Time Lapse. Following the screening will be a gala reception at Gordon Biersch Brewery restaurant. Gala tickets will include delicious food and libations inside the restaurant, with photo ops on the outside patio on the red carpet.

Over 90 films will be screened in five days in over 25 categories. In addition to showcasing independent films from around the world in a variety of genres, the festival also honors films with socially conscious themes with awards for “Diversity” and public “Awareness”. Last year, BIFF added a “Faith-Based” category and the “Los Angeles County Student Filmmakers Award” to honor local filmmakers from elementary school through senior high.

The festival will conclude with the Closing Night Dinner and Gala Awards Show at The Castaway. This event will once again be hosted by NBC weathercaster/comedian Fritz Coleman. In addition to honoring filmmakers with a variety of awards, several industry icons will receive special recognition. These include Ron Clements and Jon Musker, the writer/directors for such Walt Disney classics as The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules, and Treasure Planet, among others.

To further honor their work, we are proud to present a special screening of the timeless animated classic, The Little Mermaid in honor of its 25th anniversary. Festival director and President Jeff Rector had this to say, “We are extremely honored to screen this film as part of the festival’s “History of Cinema”, a new educational program that introduces classic studio films from a historical perspective. Our goal is to inspire young audiences to develop and foster a deeper appreciation for the art of filmmaking. Many fans of the film have never seen it on the big screen in a theatrical environment. We would also like to acknowledge Walt Disney Pictures for their support.”

In addition, we are also proud to screen the 1956 science fiction classic, Forbidden Planet. A special award will be presented posthumously to Bebe Barron, who composed the haunting music, which was the very first all-electronic score in the history of film. Special thanks to Warner Bros. Home Video for their support as well. BIFF is extremely excited to announce that this year’s “President’s Innovation Award” will be presented to the comedy The Moving Picture Co. 1914 directed by multi Emmy Award-Winning director Mark Kirkland (The Simpsons).

This year’s Awards Show Presenters include former winners writer/director Shane Black (Iron Man 3) and actor John Savage (The Deer Hunter). Other presenters include Ronn Moss (The Bold & The Beautiful), actress Kristen Renton (Sons of Anarchy) and Academy Award Nominated actress June Squibb (Nebraska), to name a few. A complete list of industry honorees and celebrity award presenters will be announced soon.
