High Tech Los Angeles (HTLA) is a diverse community of active learners dedicated to fusing traditional academic subjects with real-world, technical applications and problem solving skills. The 320 students (in grades 9-12) are productive, self-directed learners, engaged in rigorous work. HTLA’s secured campus and strong community focus prepares students to be motivated, influential and articulate learners.
HTLA is Los Angeles’ first public charter high school designed to integrate a college-prep curriculum with technology training intimately linked to the real world of work. Any current eighth grader is welcome to apply and must be entering the ninth grade in the fall of 2009.
Applications for enrollment began January 13, and will end on March 27, 2009. Students may apply directly to HTLA, which is a tuition-free public school authorized by the State of California. As a charter school, HTLA is open to all students who are selected through a lottery-based admission procedure to be held April 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the school’s Great Room. Applications are accepted in person or by U.S. Mail to HTLA, 17111 Victory Blvd.,Van Nuys, CA 91406.

Small classes allow the staff to know the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

Academic Achievement Winner

HTLA is a California Distinguished School and a Title I Academic Achievement Winner. The school boasts a score of 838 API (Academic Performance Index).
“HTLA is a unique place of collaboration among teachers, students and parents, all working to help students succeed in a 21st Century environment,” says Ms. Kathy Goodman, English and Government teacher.
Founding Principal Marsha Rybin is justifiably proud that HTLA was selected by U.S. News & World Report in December 2008 as a bronze medal winner for “Best High Schools of America.” All HTLA graduates go on to colleges and universities nation-wide.
