Life After Prostate Cancer Surgery Seminar
By Ken Laba
On Thursday, Sept. 13, 6– 7:30 p.m. at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, a free health seminar will be presented by Martin Gelbard, M.D., Urologist. The focus will be on the successful treatments/solutions available regarding two common problem areas that develop for men, post surgery. Learn how you can overcome either Sexual Function Challenges or Urinary Incontinence to live your life fully again.
Dr. Gelbard, whose practice is across the street from St. Joseph, is a partner at Urology Associates Medical Group. He has been on staff and based at this hospital for 30 years. He also serves on the clinical faculty of UCLA School of Medicine. He has published a book entitled Solving Prostate Problems by Simon & Schuster, a Fireside Trade paperback.
Graduating with honors from Stanford University, he received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of California at Davis. Then he completed a general surgery internship and residency at the Sacramento Medical Center. His final four years of postgraduate training were spent in the UCLA Urology residency program.
In private practice at Burbank since 1982, Dr. Gelbard is certified by the American Board of Urology, a consulting urologist to the Sepulveda Veteran’s Administration Hospital, and an assistant Clinical Professor of Urology at the UCLA School of Medicine. He has served as Chief of Surgery at St. Joseph Medical Center.
Dr. Gelbard and Providence hope many people will attend as there are many treatments that can provide long-term relief. For example, there are tests that uncover the source/cause of the problems, thereby enabling the Urologist to suggest the appropriate treatment option(s) for varied causes associated with:
Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
- Drug therapy for impotence (oral & injectable)
- Surgical implant
- Testosterone replacement
- Stress, urge, or overflow
There will be a PowerPoint presentation and Dr. Gelbard will also touch on controversies that have become commonplace, where challenges may occur regarding the risks v. the benefits. For example, is a patient being over-treated? Is there any upside to avoiding treatment?
Attendees can learn a lot in 90 minutes, helping to lessen the fear of being treated. A generous Q&A period will follow. There will be free parking and light refreshments. Your spouse or a guest is also welcome to attend. Yet space is limited, so call today: 1-888-HEALING.
