Deciding where to go for a great meal is never a random choice for a discerning clientele. This is especially true when it comes to steak, always in season and known by regulars to be impeccably seasoned at Damon’s Steak House in Glendale. The restaurant has won myFOXla’s HOTLIST three years in a row and has also been featured on The Food Network. Since 1937 Damon’s has been serving hot steaks and tasty drinks to a very hungry and happy crowd. Their management and staff are proud to celebrate their 75th anniversary in May.
Few and far between have the lasting power of Damon’s. It takes a diverse menu, superb ambiance and, just as important as anything, a great staff. On average employees at the restaurant have been here for a decade, with some reporting in for as long as twenty years. Michael Gingras, Damon’s Assistant General Manager, attributes this to the strong sense of community nurtured within the business.
While Damon’s has a traditional Steakhouse menu, after walking inside you will find yourself transported to a Polynesian island complete with palm trees, bamboo, and a tiki theme. Large saltwater and freshwater aquariums add to the experience. The long bar in front of the restaurant serves thousands of secret-recipe famous Mai Tais each week.
Repeat customers often wait at the bar for known servers in each of the unique dining areas. In addition to the wide-open main space, the tiki room at the back of the restaurant has an added island feel and is well suited for private events. An upstairs area is often sought by couples who enjoy an even quieter dining experience.
It goes without saying that steaks are most popular on Damon’s menu, whether you prefer filet mignon, thick juicy tenderloin, or prime rib au jus. However, there are plenty of surf and chicken options as well. Back by customer demand each Wednesday night is Kalua Pork, a common Hawaiian dish, straight from Damon’s monster BBQ smoker. Three to five specials rotate each night.
Plenty of people come to this irreplaceable steakhouse for entertainment, as there is live music three nights a week. Tuesday and Thursday guitar and vocals liven the space from 6-10 p.m. On Saturdays from 9:30 to close, Karaoke accompanied by Drag Queen Erica Valentine has been a fan favorite. Guest bartenders representing a variety of charities are welcomed regularly to raise money for their organizations.
