Don’t Sit on the Sidelines at the Holiday Parties
By Eva Mikos, Franchisee
Ballroom dancing has become one of America’s favorite pastimes, and with the holidays approaching, there are company parties and family get togethers where dancing is sure to be a part of the festivities. Will you be sitting on the sidelines this year, or do you want to jump in and join the fun?
Dancing is an activity that most people have always wanted to try. It’s an important part of socializing in many cultures. It’s instinctual to want to sway to the rhythm of the music. Our hearts provide a beat for the movement of our bodies, and we yearn to express our individual rhythm. Dancing helps us do that.
Ballroom dancing includes a wide variety of dances. There are the classic “smooth” dances such as the Waltz, Fox Trot and Tango. Then there are the “rhythm” dances, which are a little more energetic and often have a Latin flair to them. These dances include Swing and Rumba. These five dances comprise a “Get Acquainted” special at the
Glendale Arthur Murray Dance Studio. After two private lessons, a group class and a practice party, you will be able to dance the basics in these five dances. Learning even the basics of ballroom dancing will give you more confidence at any party or social event that includes dancing. It will also help you feel more creative in non-partner dances where it is strictly freestyle, such as nightclub dancing to disco or pop music.
When people first come to our studio to learn to dance, they may be shy and a little apprehensive but once they discover it is something they can do, their confidence increases and it changes their outlook of themselves. Ballroom dancing is a fun and easy way to become more social. For a couple, it is a great way to enhance their relationship.
All in all, learning to dance will make your holidays more merry and bright. New Year’s Eve is probably the most traditional of all dance party nights. There’s still time to get ready for it. Or if you are on a cruise this month, you’ll want to have some dancing skills.
The Glendale Arthur Murray Dance Studio would love to help you prepare for your holiday parties. Take advantage of our “Get Acquainted” special or purchase a gift certificate for your favorite someone who has always wanted to learn to dance. No partner is required. Contact us today!
