Tri Dao, MD is a physician with an old-fashioned attitude toward treating patients kindly. It’s a large part of why the Burbank native chose to work at Facey Medical Group’s new Burbank office after completing his residency at Glendale Adventist Medical Center last year.
“Patients know their own bodies more than their physicians do. Establishing a practice in my hometown with Facey was an exciting opportunity that I couldn’t pass up,” Dr. Dao says. Early on while attending a local middle school he enjoyed speaking with people when he worked with the Red Cross’ disaster safety training program. Now he enjoys working with patients as young as newborns as well as patients who are in their 100’s. He believes the key to aging gracefully and healthily is to have a good outlook on life. “And laughter. Lots of laughter.”
It’s this kind of attention to the patient experience that has people turning their heads when they drive past the group’s clinic at 191 South Buena Vista. In less than a year the doctor count at Facey Burbank has doubled from three to six. Rheumatologist Eileen Schwatrz Breyde, M.D. and family medicine physician Ruby Minosa, M.D. were the latest to join the Facey team in March.
When asked about The Affordable Care Act he says, “It’s a good step forward as far as getting people into the system of primary care that may never have had insurance. Navigating insurance can be confusing, but Facey has a business management and marketing team who help make sense of it all.”
Dr. Dao adds that since Facey is new to the Burbank community, patients can usually see their physician on the same day they call for an appointment. The entire team is dedicated to providing comprehensive medical services to Burbank residents and works with local specialists to provide care in situations beyond the scope of primary care (pediatrics, family, and internal medicine) and rheumatology.
Dr. Dao himself sees his primary care doctor one or two times a year, his dentist once a year, and gets his vaccinations and flu shots every fall. He takes the old adage “Doctor, heal thyself,” rather seriously.
In between salsa dancing at the Burbank Community Recreation Center, cycling, and snowboarding on local mountains, he and his wife enjoy traveling to Germany, Fiji, and Hawaii. Through his travels he’s found that care in the U.S. is on the cutting edge and usually provides more advanced medical services.
“Even though U.S. health insurance is difficult to navigate, technologies like digital radiology balance things out by speeding up results and, as a result, the care we receive. CT and MRI results in Europe can take months. We’re privileged to have these tools at our disposal.”
