Are you looking for an exciting way to spend the day (or night) but don’t want to spend a lot of your hard-earned money? In these challenging economic times, we all need a good excuse to get out of the house and have some real fun! I recently visited MB2 Raceway, a quarter-mile indoor track with electric go kart racing in Sylmar, and it was the perfect way for me to blow off some steam! I met with Director of Marketing and PR, Sean Quinn, before I suited up in my helmet and neck brace (yes, these things are fast)! He told me that they specialize in “consumer arrive-and-drive racing.” This is when someone just walks in the door and wants to race. It’s as simple as walking in the door, signing up at one of the many computers they have at the check-in counter and waiting for your race to be called. Racers must be at least 57” (4.75 feet) tall to race the adult karts. Kids who are at least 48” (4 feet) tall can also race, as MB2 has a junior kart that is specially made for smaller bodies.
Each adult kart race consists of 14 laps, complete with straight-aways and hairpin turns. After a brief explanation of how to operate the high-performance Italian race kart, we were taken to our karts to race around the track. These karts reach up to speeds of 50 mph, and give you that adrenaline rush you’ve been looking for!

One race is not enough; it takes a few laps to get used to the track. And, if you are anything like me, you’ll want to continue racing to beat your fastest lap time! (Hint: you will not make a fast lap time if you take a corner too quickly and spin out, like I did on my second race.) A single 14-lap adult kart race on the track is $23 and a single 9-lap junior kart race is $20. For $50, a racer can sign up to be a member with TrackPass, which includes one free race at sign-up, one free race on your birthday, an MB2 T-shirt and with each additional race only costing $18! Be sure to also check their Web site for weekly member specials that include, but are not limited to, $12 mid-week races and “Buy One, Get One Free Wednesdays.”
MB2 also specializes in holding corporate events and private parties, complete with catered food and drinks. They have two separate rooms; a party room with a pool table, flat-screen TV and couches (perfect for private parties and events), the other is more of a meeting room with a projector and tables. What better way to show your employees projected sales for the year with a PowerPoint presentation followed by some high-speed thrills with your co-workers? Contact MB2 today to schedule your next party, special event or sales meeting!
At MB2 Raceway, it is their belief that nothing fuels the human spirit like the challenge of racing. I couldn’t agree more.
