While foodies will certainly delight, absolutely everyone will enjoy Summer Canteen, where Thai cuisine is served deliciously fresh daily. Conveniently located at 4444 Lankershim Boulevard and Riverside Drive, it is rated highly on Yelp — and rightly so. Summer Canteen is that rare combination of up-to-the-minute delectable flavor: East meets West with just the right tempting balance. Offering Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Burmese cuisine, Summer Canteen quenches that desire for a gratifying yet easily accessible dining experience.

Owner, Eric Sansangasakun, proudly works meticulously to keep his menu constantly “trending with new flavors and tastes” for his valued customers. As microbrewery blends so well with the pairing of his mouthwatering specialties offered daily, Summer Canteen now offers a tempting selection of craft beers. The California Anderson Valley Hop Ottin’ IPA is a chic addition. It went well with my Green Papaya and Shrimp salad: Yum! A combination of Shrimp, roasted peanuts, tomatoes, string beans, chili, palm sugar with spicy lime juice dressing makes for a perfectly refreshing summer evening’s meal. My friend was delighted with the braised short ribs with vermicelli noodles, which were slowly braised in Thai bouquet garnished with carrot and scallions.

So, if you are looking for a stylish ambiance where industrial meets art, with the added attraction of plentiful outdoor dining, look no further. Summer Canteen is just the place for those casual afternoon business meetings you’d rather have while enjoying a refreshing micro-brewed beer. If that is the case, then it may be time to make Summer Canteen your other “office.” And while you are at it, try the many tasty appetizers, such as mussels with lemon grass, lime leaves and basil: in Kaffir, lemon grass, basil and herb-seasoned broth served with chili sauce.

Remember, at Summer Canteen, while you will always find the traditional dishes, such as my favorites deliciously delivered — Pad Thai and Chicken Satay, there are also always new items on the menu, so be sure to ask for and try them! For example: Isann Sausage, a classic north-eastern Thailand appetizer which is absolutely scrumptious. And don’t forget to try the mouth-watering Tofu Fries, Frog legs and refreshing Sangria! Yes, this is a place where no stone is left unturned and no customer is left wanting! In addition to all this, Summer Canteen is even more:  It exudes an up-to-the-minute fashionable ambiance of hipness which is just another great reason to visit this neighborhood eatery.  So, hurry on over and experience Thai cuisine at its best!
