After 61 years of marriage, Rosebel and Stanley Epstein know a thing or two about love. Residents of The Village at Sherman Oaks luxury retirement community, the couple says the recipe for a happy marriage is simple: be good to one another, work hard and enjoy each other’s company.
The Epsteins met in Berkeley, California at an inter-league football game. At the fundraising event surrounding the game, Rosebel was collecting money at the door and first spied Stanley. Later while he was dancing with friends, she went up and cut in.
“As they say, the rest is history,” Rosebel said. “We were married nine months later in New Jersey and then moved to Los Angeles—where we’ve lived ever since.”
After more than six decades together, the couple still enjoys each other’s company daily. They play cards and Boggle and together tackle crossword puzzles regularly.
This Valentine’s Day, The Epsteins will express their love and appreciation for each other by exchanging cards.
“Every year we give each other Valentine’s Day cards,” said Rosebel. “Stanley is very creative and often makes his own.”
