Back from their Downtown Burbank location, this rare gem has gone “full circle” by returning to its original home on Magnolia. Established 20 years ago, owner Kerry Krull (a culinary school grad) has grown her now back-to-its-roots Magnolia Park Café into a warm, yet energetic, fantastic “feels-like-home” food and drink destination. Stepping inside, whether it’s your first time or your 101st, you immediately pick up on a very genuine vibe: “Welcome, come in and enjoy!”
With all of the other commercialized, “sterile-feeling” coffee and tea houses that have popped up (like banks over the years), this neighborhood-friendly café not only draws from a bygone era, but simultaneously, ever-so-gently, brings you into modern times. Something very hard to accomplish, yet done adeptly by Kerry and her friendly, capable staff.
Setting the stage, if you will, Kerry’s daughter Kendra (a designer by degree), has expertly transformed the space into a cozy haven, which makes you never want to leave.
The focus at romancing the bean is “organic,” where you can savor some of the tastiest boutique coffees and teas available anywhere. Your favorite coffee drinks can also be made decaf, with soy, or with almond milk.
Health-conscious sandwiches, tasty (90% organic) salads, soups, fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies (not sugar-based), and pastries abound. They are very supportive of local farms for their veggies and fruits, as they are for other neighborhood, proven vendors. Their bread and pastries are bursting with flavor, made fresh daily by local artisan bakers. Gluten-free bread, hard to come by in any restaurant, is also available.
They have daily sandwich specials, a “killer” butter-nut vegan squash chili, with a menu that has something for everyone, including vegans and vegetarians.
Gifts include mood-enhancing coffee candles and an amazing coffee body scrub too! Jen at KleanSpa, on the corner where MINDFULnest resides, takes romancing the bean’s organic coffee grounds and makes these wonderful products.
Impressively, they even host local middle-school field trips at romancing the bean, educating kids about organic gardening, and how to make it tasty, healthy, and nutritious.
