Universal CityWalk’s “Summer Block Party” Sizzles with a Marathon of Free Music and Movies
Celebrity/Tribute Band Performances, Talent Competitions, Latin Nights and Free Outdoor Movies Through August 30
Universal CityWalk’s “Summer Block Party” presents this summer’s most unbeatable offer: a free summer marathon of music and movies including celebrity musical performances, tribute band concerts, free outdoor movie nights, dance lessons, talent competitions and weekly Latin entertainment days. The “something for everyone” Summer Block Party offers free top entertainment every night this summer, and continues through August 30.
CityWalk will feature seven distinct series of entertainment rotating each day of the week.
KIIS FM Dance Crew Competition jumpstarts Monday nights from 7-9pm as L.A.’s top dance crews compete for $5000, a year of unlimited classes at L.A.’s famed dance studio Millennium, a private instruction session with Shane Sparks and a chance to dance on the “America’s Best Dance Crew” stage. KIIS FM Dance Competition semi-finals continue July 20, 27 and August 3, 10 and 17, with the finals scheduled for August 24.
On Tuesday nights, CityWalk presents Summer Night Swing with live bands on the stage from 7:30-10pm, along with free professional swing lessons. Event dates are July 21, 28 and August 4, 11, 18 and 25.
CityRock Live! featuring 98.7 RockStar on Wednesdays takes CityWalk by storm as the new platform for talent discovery begins July 8 from 7:30-10pm. In this competitive singing series, CityRock Live! challenges aspiring performers to sing ‘til “they can’t sing no more” for a chance to win a cash prize and record deal from 98.7. CityRock Live! will take place at CityWalk on July 22, 29 and August 5, 12, 19 and 26. (More information is available at www.CityWalkHollywood.com.)
Thursday nights from 7:30-10pm, the popular Big, Free Outdoor Movie night returns to CityWalk’s giant outdoor screen with encore performances showcasing such family favorites as “Kung Fu Panda” (July 16), “Hotel for Dogs” (July 23), “Goonies” (July 30), “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” (August 6), “Grease” (August 13), “Hannah Montana: The Movie” (August 20) and the ever-so-popular “High School Musical 3: Senior Year” (August 27).
Aerial acrobats grace Cinema Plaza on Friday and Saturday nights as the Silk Sisters, a powerful and beautiful female duo, glides, tumbles and gracefully sways above CityWalk from 8–9pm. Guests will experience the excitement and adventure of the beautiful and breathtaking aerialists’ art.
Guests may need to do a double take on Flashback Fridays as popular 70’s, 80’s and 90’s tribute and cover bands turn heads, and beg the question “Are they, or are they not? Flashback Fridays kicks off on July 3 from 7:30-10pm with Cheryl Cooley’s “Klymaxx,” “Missing Persons,” “Fan Halen—A Van Halen Tribute Show,” “The Motels” and “Bonfire—A Tribute to Early AC/DC,” to name a few. Performances are Friday night as follows: July 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 14, 21 and 28.
The stars shine bright on CityWalk as Saturday evening’s rock to the rhythmic sounds of popular celebrity bands who act/dance by day and sing by night. Celebrity performances include: Chase Masterson (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”) on July 18; The Missing Links featuring Peter Tork (“The Monkees”) on July 25; The Thomas Nicholas Band featuring Thomas Nicholas (“American Pie”) on August 1; Syesha Mercado (“American Idol” season 7) and Frenchelle “Frenchie” Davis (“American Idol” season 2) on August 8; and Ryan Eggold (“Beverly Hills 90210”) on August 15 and more.
Sundays on CityWalk will have a Latin appeal with the return of Descarga en CityWalk con Telemundo y mun2, featuring a dynamic mix of live Latin band performances and celebrity guest appearances from 5:30-8pm. Event dates are July 19, 26 and August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
