OK for Children
This has real people as actors with the chipmunks added in post production. For adults, it is a real squirmer. But I attended with a six-year-old and he was beside himself with joy throughout the entire movie.
Here, Alvin and his brothers are going to high school. But their former agent, Ian (David Cross), who feels he was double crossed by Alvin and his brothers, discovers three female chipmunks who can sing also, so he sets about to promote them at the expense of Alvin’s group.
It’s all silly but the music is good and children love it, so who am I to complain?
But I’m a critic, and my main complaint is that I couldn’t understand anything the chipmunks said. Maybe children could but I was at sea virtually every time they spoke. I don’t think I would have enjoyed the movie any more had I understood them because the story and plot are self evident (carried by Cross). In fact, Cross gives a terrific performance as the devious agent.
