Christmas Galas and New Year’s Dining

The Valley is blessed with many commendable restaurants but none more inviting and proudly Euro-authentic than Maximilian’s Austrian Hungarian Restaurant, 11330 Weddington Street, at Tujunga in the NoHo Arts district where well-seasoned chef-owner Laszlo adds a personal touch to every classic dish served at lunch or dinner.
As a preview of his eloquent Christmas fare, Chef Laszlo is now featuring a luscious oven-roasted goose feast on his auspicious Austro-Hungarian lunch and dinner menu daily. It’s a treat to the eyes and, especially, to the palate. A mini-appetizer tray with a flavorful cheese spread, sausage and other succulent starters accompanies an irresistible basket (quickly replenished by genial server Andre) of French bread, followed by a zesty cucumber salad and a steamy cup of homemade soup du jour. On the traditional goose platter are red cabbage, mashed potatoes, stewed apples and more, presented with a tray of tempting garnishes. The gourmet meal climaxes with a chef’s sweet treat.
To be sure, the regular menu also prevails until Christmas Day (December 25th) when the sublime setting opens its royal gates to self-parking at 5 pm. Though the royal roast goose will reign supreme, other delicious multi-course entrées will include filet mignon, braised veal sirloin or roasted Monkfish Loin. Patrons on the Christmas occasion will decide between a three-course menu ($36) and the four-course menu ($46). Youngsters under 12 will Christmas dine for $16.
Some of Laszlo’s classic dishes will also be available à la carte on the holiday menu. (The Palate favors the Schnitzel.)
A quite different but equally festive menu will be served on New Year’s Eve at similar prices. Chef Laszlo is justly proud of his wide selection of imported vintages.
