Gladly Risking Over-Indulgence

When the gang just can’t agree on which style of Asian cuisine to enjoy for lunch or dinner, the road to mutual satisfaction could well be QQ (900 N. Central Ave. in Glendale), where the all-you-can-eat buffet offers Szechwan, Cantonese, Mandarin, hot and spicy Hunan, Thai, and even Japanese sushi dishes. There’s literally something for everybody. If Asian food is not your favorite thing, there’s pizza, seafood chicken, beef BBQ and various other American dishes. There are more than 140 freshly prepared dishes daily, and the price is right – $7.50 for lunch from 11am-4pm Monday-Saturday, and $11.99 for dinner daily ‘til 11pm (except Sunday, when the $11.99 tab applies from 11am-10pm).
The several rows of holding trays are replenished regularly and 99-cent beverages are served at the table by a courteous young staffer. The spacious, impeccably-maintained place was originally Shaker Mountain Inn, and still has the feel of a deluxe ski lodge but with lots of free self-parking.
On a recent early afternoon visit, not every dish delighted the Palate. I’ve had more interesting sushi (but not at this price), and the pizza was best avoided but QQ provides ample opportunities to sample something unfamiliar. For starters, I enjoyed a hot bowl of seafood soup (one of six choices) then filled a plate with shrimp, scallops and mussels. The dessert buffet is pretty unexciting but has fruits, jello, puddings and cookies. You can also order bakery items, like cheesecake, for an extra charge. The main danger at QQ is over-indulgence but I’ll gladly take that delicious risk again.
Many dishes are served, as a complete entrée meal, with white rice, and there are single entrée lunch plates for $5.95, as well as take-out boxes for those on the run. Talk to QQ about catering your next event.
