It had been may months since I visited Good Microbrew and Grill on Sunset Boulevard in Silverlake, which features hundreds of import and domestic beers plus a much expanded lunch and dinner menu. The spacious place is a modified sports bar with smartly stained cement floors, minimal maintenance table and chair seating, plus bar stools at the attractive service bar. Unfortunately there’s not a chair cushion in the place and a long sit is torturous for boney bods like mine. The outside seating is marginally more comfortable but there’s the roar of constant traffic to contend with.
The kitchen produces a wide range of salads, sandwiches and entrée specialties including a delicious chicken Fettuccini Alfredo with generous chunks of sautéed chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts in a white wine cream sauce for $11.95 at lunch and $13.50 for dinner (giant serving sufficient for two). Add $43.95 to substitute shrimp.
Burger addicts will approve the Good selection of half-pounds of ground beef in various styles from $11.95. Try Drake’s Mushroom Burger with fresh mushrooms and Swiss cheese for $12.70. Of course pour a cool brew but most of all —- carry along a cushion to Good, at 3725 Sunset Blvd, where there’s self parking convenience.
It’s a café price fixed seasonal special menu at the colorful, popular group of eating places known as Mimi’s Café. The $12.95 three course limited time dinner special includes a choice of three starters, including corn chowder, thick and rich French Onion or soup du jour, a green salad or Caesar salad.
Entrees include broiled shrimp skewers with asparagus and mashed potatoes, a Thai chicken noodle bowl with sautéed stir-fried veggies, roasted chicken and asparagus ravioli or the Palate’s pick — soy glazed four ounce salmon with grilled asparagus and brown rice.
Mini sweets include an Oreo crumble sundae, bread pudding, an overly sweet apple crisp or a really remarkable chocolate mousse. Add a buck for coffee, iced tea or soda and enjoy dinner. One word of caution: Mimi’s youthful service staff is often more willing than able. Example: our starter course and entrees arrived simultaneously, not a forgivable goof.
