Valleyites know their hummus and many choose the Alcazar Express, 17239 Ventura Blvd. in Encino for fine Middle Eastern Cuisine, live entertainment — including belly dancers — in an inviting ambiance.

Their broad menu touches all the Lebanese and Armenian bases including kabobs, seafood, shawarma, shish taouk, falafel and more cooked to order and attractively presented at moderate prices.

Lunch is served Monday thru Saturday and is a tasty way to get acquainted with the colorful place. Beyond a selection of sandwiches, Alcazar offers a choice of $9.95 lunch specials including tasty beef or vhicken shawarma with seasoned rice, green salad, plus a side of hummus or baba ghanouj. The Palate favors the mini grilled salmon filet with seasoned rice, green salad plus hummus or baba ghanouj. For sweet measure there’s Baklava for dessert.

Alcazar offers Mezza sampler feasts for two or more at $20 and $30 per person.

Planning a party? Alcazar offers a royal set menu for groups with a dozen popular specialties at $45 per person.

There’s a full bar “the pipes” and more as well as several comfy choices of indoor and outdoor seating areas. There’s substantial patron parking behind the restaurant. There is a second Alcazar located at 1303 Westwood Blvd. in west Los Angeles.

Briefly but favorably noted. The lavish weekend buffet at Café Sierra is exceptional but extravagant. Make it a special occasion for a weekend dine-out adventure.
