There’s something new and overdue at a Valley landmark restaurant and popular “watering hole,” Newman’s the Oyster House, in its 39th year at 12446 Moorpark St. in Studio City.
It’s Sunday Brunch ‘Rona Style, planned and hosted by Herbie’s bride and former owner of the lamented Steak Joynt. Rona promises creative new options to the Valley brunch scene.
“We’ll be offering an amazing new brunch menu, plus exciting Sunday libations,” Rona told the Palate. Sunday brunch is underway from 10 a.m. ‘til 2 p.m. Sample dishes include Poached Eggs in a hole of sourdough served with bacon, roasted potatoes and onions, $8. An egg white omelet with mushrooms, tomato and cheddar topped with avocado; served with mixed greens and sourdough, $9. From the griddle come pancakes or waffles with seasonal fruit, $7. It’s a family brunch for all ages at the legendary Oyster House. So let the Newman reunion begin! A full dinner menu is served nitely with a 3-course week nite dinner special, $14.95.
Sweethearts beware! The battle has begun for deuce tables at or even about 8 o’clock on Valentine’s Day — which is just around the corner. My e-mail runneth over with menus for the occasion — mostly well planned prix fixe dinners with limited options to keep service swift and table turnover on schedule… If you‘re still in the courting stages, vie for reservations, dress up and queue up. If you‘ve reached a secure relationship status, consider coupling out with your mate the evening before or after V-Day. You‘ll enjoy prompt seating, order from a full menu, get relaxed and attentive service — and save serious tab dollars to invest on flowers, jewelry and such. Now, that‘s romantic!
