Those very promotional Sizzlers are running a new entrée special. This time they’re right on target with a half rack of meaty, well sauced baby back ribs for $12.95 and the whole rib for $16.95. The latter is enough for two or to take home.

A couple of issues ago I began a search for well prepared salmon beyond pricy seafood houses, which led me to Elena’s — a favorite place for Greek Armenian cuisine at 1000 S. Glendale Ave. in Glendale — where I always ordered either the lamb or beef kebab. Number Eight on their pictorial menu caught my eye so I opted for grilled salmon. It proved to be a smart choice as an abundant serving of fresh, exotically seasoned salmon was deliciously different. The $9.99 meal, a typical value here, includes a super bowl of lentil soup or a crispy salad and an array of tasty side dishes including a heap of savory yellow rice, roasted tomato and peppers.

Family owned and operated, Elena’s serves lunch and dinner daily except on Sunday.

Evidently Lancers Burbank landmark can cook anything to order. I think of the busy place at 697 N. Victory below Burbank Blvd. as ideal for breakfast (served anytime) and a broad menu of meat and chicken dishes, but had never checked out the fish until a recent visit and there it was, a nice portion of broiled salmon with a choice of soup or salad, choice of potato or rice pilaf and a veggie of the day, which happened to be corn, plus fresh baked bread and butter for around and about $14. Just one more good reason to visit Lancer’s — where there’s plenty of free self parking.
