Summer is upon us and, as the North Atlantic waters warm, the Maine Lobster and clambake season is in full swing. The elegant downtown Water Grill, located at 544 S. Grand Ave., a top choice seafood restaurant in the Zagat Survey, is serving Chef David LeFevre’s three-course Sunday Lobster Clambake, including a 11/2 lb. Maine Lobster, $49.95 per person.

Less extravagant and closer to our home base, the popular Café Bizou, at 14016 Ventura Blvd. in Sherman Oaks, offers a two course Lobster Fest on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays through July 11th at $29.95 per person. Maine Lobster is a course choice here.

There are several more stylish Katsu-Ya locations including Encino, Glendale and Hollywood nearby. But sushi loving Valleyites swear by the cozy and intimate venerable Studio City location at 11680 Ventura Blvd. Their signature dish is crispy rice with spicy tuna and the most requested sushi includes yellowtail belly, Japanese Red Snapper with yuzi pepper and seared garlic Toro with herbs. Everything at this Katsu Ya can be pretty well summed up as “umami” — a Japanese term for ‘really tasty.’

Be sure to try the salmon with caviar sashimi and the foie gras with seared scallop and asparagus.

Starbucks is up to new promo tricks to lure ever more customers through their countless doors. Starting July 1, all company owned stores will offer unlimited free wireless Internet access. The extended WiFi access, already offered by McDonald’s, is expandable for entertainment events and online content. It has been designed to encourage longer stays and bigger sales. For the record, the endless chain still brews designer coffee.
