Recently, there has been a lot of positive print reports as well as enthusiastic electronic media vibes about Gary Bric’s Ramp. The good news is that the surge of praise is well earned and totally true. The Ramp is an exceptional owner-operated, full-service total value restaurant on Hollywood Way at the juncture of the north and south ramps of the Golden state Frwy. It’s located just below Glenoaks Boulevard and well worth the drive from wherever you are reading this column.
Casual, cozy and inviting, the Ramp emphasizes value and quality with entrees from $14.95 for chicken dishes and $13.95 for a succulent ½ rack of lamb dinner. Seafood specialties range from $15.95 for Louisiana blackened catfish or red snapper (broiled or sautéed). You can even order a full pound of frog legs for $18.95.
USDA Prime and aged Choice beef steaks are so tender and tasty from Bric’s broiler. Generous 12 oz. cuts are cooked to order from $21.95 for a popular New York or top sirloin, and the hard to find, flavorful culotte. Pastas are priced from $13.95 for spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs or sausage.
As I’ve been telling you since Bric took over the Ramp in ‘93, nobody leaves hungry. Dinners include a big, steaming bowl of home-style soup or crispy fresh green salad plus a choice of rice, a baked potato, a stuffed baked potato or Ramp fries, rolls and butter.
Appetizers range from $6.95 for deep fried zucchini to $24.95 for a giant bowl of steamed clams. A ½ loaf of cheese garlic toast is a savory treat at $2.95.
Gary and Shelly’s selection of quality vintages by the glass or bottle are sensibly priced and there’s an inspired and convivial full bar.
