Make Any Meal a Special Event

If your sushi experience has been only fair to midline, it’s time to go over the hill and visit Toshi Kihara’s Hamasaku,  on Melrose Avenue at King’s Road in West Hollywood, where the finest, freshest ingredients are creatively prepared and eloquently presented to discerning, often distinguished, industry figures. Frequent guests include entertainment legends Julie Andrews and Blake Edwards, as well as rising star GQ cover boy and sexy “Twilight” vampire, Robert Pattinson.
The not-so-secret extra attraction at Hamasaku is the place’s personable host, Toshi, whose reputation for gracious hospitality preceded this latest sensation where every guest receives celebrity attention. The restaurant’s design and service wares are attractively cutting edge. The Palate avidly advises  that you sip a favorite cocktail at the luxurious full bar or have a warm pot of sake while soaking in the tranquil ambience at lunch, or especially at dinner, served nightly (except Sunday). Reservations are suggested, so call (323) 651-5866.
Sheer excellence comes at a price, so bring along the platinum card. The good news is that those unfamiliar with sushi possibilities needn’t ponder what or how much to order. Request Toshi or a trained server to select several contrasting courses to warm the heart of that certain someone, or to treat a worthy friend while you self-indulge. The simple fact is that any meal at Hamasaku becomes a special event.
As Easter and Mother’s Day approach, the Palate has two words of advice: make reservations or risk a waiting line on the busy holidays. If there are youngsters in the family it just saves dollars and makes sense to check menus for kid’s plate prices because you don’t want to pay big platter prices for small mouths and tummies. Enjoy the holiday at a favorite restaurant and give Mom the day off.
