A newly reinvented and long time favorite, Pagliacci’s Trattoria Taverna is briskly making its way as a preeminent destination for Valley dwellers. Owner Steve Tasu brings a lifetime of experience to the table and proves it, with collaborator Chef Carlos whom has spent the last twelve years honing his skills at renowned Drago of Santa Monica. Together they coin up a menu and ambiance that’s perfectly paired. This quant, off-the-boulevard eatery is a gem.
Great starters include the Carpaccio di Filetto – thinly sliced beef tenderloin, served raw with arugula, capers, and parmesan. This antipasto is light and delicate, a perfect prelude.
Another must-try is the Arancini – Risotto balls filled with ragu, green peas, and cheese. These are crunchy, comforting bursts of melty happiness.
The Red Apple Salad is a fresh marriage between peppery arugula, endive, walnuts, tomatoes, and sweet red apples gently tossed in a light vinaigrette. Easy and fresh.
A key factor that separates Pagliacci’s from its counterparts is the homemade pasta that graces the following dishes: Fettuccine Bolognese, Meat Lasagna, and Ravioli de Ricotta. Anytime you match the fresh, velvety, and al dente homemade pastas with a delicious meat sauce, layered with Black Angus beef or stuffed with spinach and ricotta to create cushions of goodness, you are bound to create an experience that is imprinting and palate pleasing.
The Veal Scallopini is a top notch selection. The tender sautéed veal is served with fingerling potatoes, mixed vegetables, and completed with a delicious mushroom sauce.
Other enticing menu options: traditional and specialty pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and burgers and entrees that cover both land and sea, including Lamb Osso Bucco and Cioppino.
Get happy with a well-appointed bar menu from 3—6 p.m. and from 10 p.m. until close. With the well-versed beer and wine selection you can wash down the Gamberreti, shrimp wrapped in prosciutto, or the Burrata Martini, creamy burrata, arugula, avocado, and tomatoes.
To round out the experience try the fabulous Tiramisu with a fresh brewed espresso, or the Cherry cake, a tart-like custard-infused treat, that is splendid when sipped with an Italian red.
The Bottom Line: Apps $7—10, Entrees $10-26. Warm and accommodating with an unpretentious charm. Catering for any occasion, wonderfully well priced. Pagliacci’s Trattoria Taverna is located at 4366 Coldwater Canyon Ave. in Studio City. For more information visit pagliaccistaverna.com.
