HollywoodReporter.com reports that Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail will develop and produce a Universal Cable Productions drama based on Hollywood Reporter senior writer Gary Baum’s investigative feature on Angelyne—the famous for being famous Los Angeles billboard diva.

Shameless actor Emmy Rossum will star as “the self-created pop culture icon — whose real name, uncovered in Baum’s August exposé, is Renee Goldberg.

The limited series project will be shopped to cable and streaming outlets. Baum, who spent months researching Angelyne’s past, will serve as a consultant on the drama,” according to The Reporter.

“I have always been fascinated by the enigma that is Angelyne,” Rossum told The Reporter. “At a young age, I can vividly remember staring up at her on a billboard above me and wondering, ‘Who is that woman?’”

The Reporter revealed some interesting facts on the blonde bombshell. She is now 67, was raised in L.A. and is the daughter of Holocaust survivors. She attended high school in Panorama City, before she became famous by appearing on billboards locally and driving a pink Corvette around Hollywood.

The Angelyne project marks the first scripted television adaptation of a Hollywood Reporter article since the publication’s reinvention as a weekly magazine and home for long form journalism.
