A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Thursday, March 3, at the intersection of Whitnall Highway and Clybourn Avenue for a long-awaited project. Councilman Tom LaBonge officiated with dignitaries, representatives of the Los Angeles Dept. of Water and Power, as well as other agencies and interested parties attending. This area has been a blight and an eyesore to the neighborhood for some time and has giant towering DWP fixtures, on land that during the last heavy rainstorm season turned into a muddy quagmire. The new project will be upgraded to reduce the flooding, and this formerly unusable land, through much work from numerous City Departments, will eventually be landscaped and turned into a wonderful walking area and park called the Whitnall Gardens. It is slated to begin in April, and the entire population in the surrounding area is looking forward to its completion!
