Creativity is the fuel that keeps people running.
Time and time again, studies have shown that active engagement of the mind and body is a key factor in preserving health and promoting longevity.
Today, people are increasingly living longer, and staying healthy into their later years.
As longevity increases, how can people remain actively engaged and healthy?
The answer could be surprising.
How often do most people paint, sculpt, write, act, or just enjoy the social interaction of an inspiring poetry class?
For most, it may have been a while, but new research is now proving that active participation in the arts can actually improve the health of those aged 62+.
A recent study by the National Endowment for the Arts reported that seniors who have access to ongoing arts programs experience better health.
As a result, many are seeking opportunities to live an active, artistic life. In fact, new housing options are emerging which are focused on delivering this artistic lifestyle.
This is a concept we know well at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony Apartments, designed for adults aged 62+. In fact, it’s one around which our entire apartment community was built.
The idea is simple. Offer free classes in an arts-focused environment, designed to help improve the lives of residents through wellness, arts, and social endeavors.
We all want to be part of a social group and, perhaps more importantly, to discover or rediscover those feelings and activities that bring renewed passion to our lives.
We’ve seen this first hand with many of our residents.
For example, one gentleman who lives here always dreamed of becoming a writer. After renting an apartment at the NoHo Senior Arts Colony Apartments, he was inspired and began writing nonstop. Now, he writes everything from plays to short stories, and says that the daily activity keeps him motivated and happy.
Overall, it’s the active engagement in writing and other activities that he feels is improving his life and health on a daily basis.
Today, people throughout the U.S. are seeking opportunities to become actively engaged in the arts. As this trend toward arts and aging continues, we will see more people finding creative ways to enjoy artistic environments at any age.
