The legendary comedy bonanza Beverly Winwood Presents the Actor’s Showcase returns to the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s Renberg Theatre for a one-night-only fundraiser on Sunday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. The students from “Beverly Winwood’s acting school” are back for yet another try at Hollywood glory. The Center’s Lily Tomlin/Jane Wagner Cultural Arts Center is presenting the side-splitting parody of the dreaded showbiz ritual, the showcase staged for casting agents by graduating acting students. Thanks to the cast’s generosity, all proceeds will benefit the Center’s array of free and low-cost services.
Conceived and directed by Tony Sepulveda, the show features an all-star cast of Groundlings alumni portraying greenhorn actors, desperate to land a TV or film role, who gleefully mangle scenes from famous movies and plays. The show that “revels in delicious dreadfulness” (Los Angeles Times) returns with a roster scheduled to include an Oscar winner and an Emmy winner among the team of stellar talent: Carrie Aizley, Tim Bagley, Jordan Black, Patrick Bristow, Jennifer Coolidge, Nat Faxon, Rachael Harris, Mike Hitchcock, David Jahn, Phil Lamarr, Michael Loprete, Karen Maruyama, Melissa McCarthy, Chris Parnell, Cathy Shambley, Mary Jo Smith, Antoinette Spolar, Mindy Sterling, and Christen Sussin.
Variety called Beverly Winwood “a superb send-up … performed by Hollywood hopefuls who’d be better off climbing back onto the turnip truck.”
“The tears from laughing yourself silly will start falling early, so bring some tissues,” wrote Entertainment Today.
