On Saturday, Jan. 26, longtime Burbank resident Barbara Strickland celebrated her 90th birthday with a Western-themed party given for her by her children. Over 300 friends and relatives dropped by to wish her a Happy Birthday and spend the day visiting with her. Her children, Randy (Ellen) came from Camp Verde, Ariz.; Kevin (Lisa) traveled from San Jose; Tim (Darlene) came the furthest from Anchorage; Joel (Tina) came in from Denver; and Katie (Mark) and Sean (Lista) both live in Burbank.
She also had all 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren in attendance enjoying the cowboy music and cake & ice cream. Barbara was born and raised in Lone Pine, Calif., before attending L.A. County General Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1947. She was a registered nurse at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center for 28 years before retiring in 1988. She has been a member of The Village Church in Burbank since 1951, which is also where her party was held.
After the party at the church, her family took her to Fuddruckers where the celebration continued and the night was capped off with her being treated to a ride on family friend Andy Lehman’s Harley Davidson through the streets of Downtown Burbank. It was an exciting and fun-filled weekend for all who attended her party, but especially for Barbara and her family, as it will be remembered for many years to come.
