Burbank Temple Emanu El’s Religious School — like BTEE itself —
is a small, tightly-knit community, dedicated to creating a supportive, nurturing environment, and instilling a love of Judaism and a solid foundation in Jewish learning. “We have a holy task ahead,” notes Religious School Director Rabbi Janet Bieber. “The initiation of our precious children into the enormous, mysterious and enticing world of the love of our sacred and vibrant traditions.” BTEE Religious School’s talented teaching staff focuses on building the skills needed for Hebrew reading and comprehension, while instilling Jewish values and spirituality through Torah study and prayer. The twice-weekly sessions (held on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons) promote learning both within and beyond the classroom walls, with a curriculum that includes music, crafts, cooking and dance. The religious school also comes together several times during the year to experience special Family High Holy Days, Shabbat and Havdallah services. Its annual weekend retreat – or Family Camp – in Malibu, is a congregation-wide favorite. In addition to its religious school, BTEE also boasts a highly-acclaimed play-based pre-school that is open to all in the Burbank and surrounding communities. BTEE Pre-School has flexible hours, and focuses on developing social and learning skills. Guided by its skilled and talented director, Carol Miller, the pre-school observes all Jewish holidays, including weekly Shabbat celebrations that feature music, art and stories. Want to know more? BTEE will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, August 30, 2009, beginning at 10am. Meet the Rabbi, the Religious School and Pre-School directors, and some teachers. Visit the classrooms, and join-in with challah baking and other pre-Rosh Hashanah activities for the whole family.
