There is a good old fashioned film called For Greater Glory that is done in an epic style and tells the story about the little-known Cristero War. It is about a daring people’s revolt that became a civil war inMexico in the 1920s, and it has surprising relevance in today’s world.

“This is a part of history, and yet so few people have ever heard of it. It is a true story of tremendous bravery,” said Eva Longoria, who is part of the stellar multi-national cast that includes Andy Garcia, Peter O’Toole, Nestor Carbonell, Ruben Blades, Bruce Greenwood, Bruce McGill, Santiago Cabrera, and Oscar Isaac. Shot on historical locations throughoutMexico, it is directed by Dean Wright, and written by Michael Love.

Garcia plays a retired military man and Longoria is his devout wife, and they risk everything to help stop their country’s religious persecution imposed by the ruthless government. Longoria explained, “The movie asks the question, what would you pay for the price of freedom? I am very proud to be part of this remarkable story.”

Longoria said For Greater Glory was a passion project for her. And at the recent NBC press day for the network’s upcoming shows, the former Desperate Housewives star talked about another very different passion project.

Longoria is the force behind a new relationship show she’s currently producing, called Ready for Love for NBC. She said it is “a really fun labor of love, helping men find the right women to share their lives with.”

The petite actress noted that she has produced the ALMA Awards for five years, with great success. And after eight seasons on Desperate Housewives, she said she wants to do more producing because “I have a very strong business mind, and so I like putting the pieces together, being part of the creative process behind the scenes. That was really appealing to me. And to be behind the camera and to help develop it with NBC. I’m a workaholic, and I love the medium of television.”

She said this type of reality show is perfect for her because “I’ve always been in love with love.” So she went into talks with NBC and the idea was developed into a contemporary matchmaking modern format.

Describing the show, Eva said, “We’ll have three awesome, eligible, handsome, funny gorgeous guys who are ready for love. They have my stamp of approval. I actually got to be part of the search acrossAmericafor them. They are three very different, very diverse guys from different backgrounds and different parts of the country, with different successes. Women will get to be part of the show if they think they could really love one of these guys. The catch is they have to make it through our three matchmakers.”

No, Longoria will not be one of the matchmakers. “We’ll have professionals. I’m a horrible matchmaker,” said the twice-divorced Texas-native with a smile.

Eva thinks that the matchmaker element will set her relationship show apart. “It’s contemporary and refreshing to focus on a genuine journey to find a soul mate for these guys.”

Eva has been on her own journey, personally and professionally, ever since she caught audiences’ attention in the soap opera The Young and the Restless.

She said, “I don’t think fame has affected me as much as the success I’ve enjoyed has really been a blessing in my life. It affords me the opportunity to do things like Ready for Love, and producing the ALMA Awards, or anything else that I want to put my mind to.”

Also in her future are Who Gets the Dog (which she co-produced), Long Time Gone, The Baytown Outlaws, and several more films.
