It’s good to know that dreams do come true and some dreamers who made it happen.
American Airlines and “The Tolucan Times”
Jon and Wendy Hauptman, winners of the American Airlines first class tickets to anywhere in the USA, are following their dream because they followed their hearts and entered The Tolucan Times love story contest.
I’ve known Ronnie and Rochelle Jacobs for more decades than I remember. However, I’ll never forget the magical years of working with Ron when he was acting in so many executive capacities (writer, producer, director) at the happiest lot in town where The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Danny Thomas Show, The Andy Griffith Show, The Joey Bishop Show, Gomer Pyle USMC, That Girl, I Spy (and the list goes on…) were filmed. Ron Jacobs was everywhere—whatever show I was lucky enough to work on, he was involved. Socially, Ron and Rochelle had fun parties with singing around the piano. Now he’s singing some different tunes… his own.
Ron has followed a personal dream and has written a musical. Along with Laurie Stevens, Ron has written the book and lyrics. And the music is by Doug Goodwin and Norman Mamey (famed composers). Directed by Chris Winfield and Stan Mazin, there’s no way it can’t be fun. (Stan Mazin happens to be one of the funniest and most gifted people I know but he’s another column!)
The world premiere of this play with music is handily called Follow Your Dreams. Ten people, one room, ten dreams. Now playing at the Secret Rose Theatre in the NoHo Arts District in North Hollywood through Oct. 31. This is a lot of ‘dreams come true,’ and you can dream along with them at followyourdreamstheplay.com.
One of my dreams is to get a copy of The Royal Follies of 1933, a Danny Thomas special that is one of my favorite working experiences. Ron Jacobs was the executive in charge of production, and he can’t locate a copy. Anyone out there who knows how to find it? You never know, “follow your dreams”
