Two upscale department stores – Bloomingdale’s and Nordstrom — will open new outlets in Glendale later this year, according to Mayor Frank Quintero speaking at the city’s annual State of the City Awards Luncheon at the Hilton Hotel last week.
The new Nordstrom will anchor the trendy downtown Americana Shopping Center, and swank Bloomingdale’s will occupy the old Mervyn’s space at the adjacent Galleria.
“Glendale is standing on firm ground,” Quintero declared, addressing several hundred business and community leaders in the Hilton ballroom. “Glendale continues to be one of the Top 10 safest cities in the country.”
He noted that crime is down while the local economy is continuing to rebound.
The mayor proudly pointed to several ongoing projects as a sign of Glendale’s renewed vitality, including a Downtown Specific Business Plan, the Glendale Narrows Riverwalk recreation park, and the Brand Library renovation.
Honored at the luncheon were David Ho of Pacific BMW (Business of the Year), Kevin Roberts of Glendale Adventist Hospital (CEO of the Year), Rick Lemmo of Caruso Development (Man of the Year), Kathy McClure of LKG-CMC (Woman of the Year), Norman Leduc of First Foundation Bank (Chairman’s Award), and Mike Benneian of Hutchinson & Bloodgood (Dennis De Pietro Award).
The Glendale Chamber of Commerce coordinates the event and sponsors this year include the Walt Disney Company, AT&T, Brand Boulevard of Cars, Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks, and the Bob Hope Airport.
