Hooray for Henry’s!

Henry’s Farmers Market.

On Wednesday, September 30, a brand new Henry’s Farmers Market opened in Burbank with a grand celebration. The first Henry’s opened in San Diego, California in the 1950’s, and the latest store opened in Monrovia, California in June of this year.
The first 200 customers in line for the opening received a carry bag filled with over $75 in products from the store. To their surprise, the line began forming the day before about 4pm. By early morning, they gave out wrist tags, and shortly after 7am they not only had their first two hundred but had to turn away over one hundred more! First in line were two young friends, Calvin Wingfield and Jonny Kipers, both from Burbank, who spent the night loaded with pizza, cookies, fast food and no sleep!
Of course, everyone there stayed to await the coming festivities, and shortly before 9am, Gary Bric, Mayor of Burbank, along with

members of the City Council and Chamber of Commerce, participated in the official ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the rush was on! Excitement built rapidly as the customers saw the fantastic store arranged beautifully into sections of fresh produce, meat products, health and vitamins, bakery—you name it! Wow! My first impression was that this is a combination of Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and a Farmers Market all rolled into one… without the higher prices! They are right next to a CVS Pharmacy and other leading stores, with lots of parking. Speaking of parking, I want to mention it was not easy handling the huge crowd but I was impressed by the officers from Royal Protection Service in Woodland Hills who did a magnificent job and were pleasant with everyone. Officer Dennis Sybrowsky spoke to me about their background and highly experienced staff, and I want to thank them for the great job they did.
Inside the store were food samples and specials all day long, an impressive staff and lots of smiling, happy customers! I spoke with the store director, John Gibson, who has been with the company for about seven years, and was involved in the opening of their last store in Monrovia. I definitely will be a new steady customer, and plan to return soon! See you there!
