On a boiling hot afternoon in Burbank last Thursday, there was quite the air of excitement as the Mayor of Burbank, David Gordon, gathered along with local friends and family to celebrate the opening of an innovative new business idea. Is it a restaurant? A bar? What about a club? Well, it’s actually all of the above. U-Foodie is the creation of three longtime friends who recognized an overwhelming need for culinary education among their peers.
“Times have changed, and where it used to be the rule that Mom stayed home and taught her children how to cook, that’s no longer the case. We have a generation of children — and parents — who rely on takeout and TV dinners, so we decided that we wanted to make a difference in our local community and change that trend,” says Jennifer Baca, the resident marketing and front-of-house expert. “We also wanted to bring a little piece of Hollywood glitz to Burbank,” which is evident by the glamorous interior design.
U-Foodie’s friendly resident Chef Dan Lombardo has created mouth-watering menus for their classes that take you on a trip around the world. He and experienced prep Chef Bob Bercini will guide you through a hands-on experience where you get to learn, cook, and dine on the food that you create — all whilst enjoying tailored cocktails and upbeat playlists. Oh, and I can’t leave out the chocolate chili ice cream — it’ll blow your socks off!
Whether it’s a desire to gain confidence in the kitchen, introduce your children to the joy of cooking (look out for this summer’s Pro-Teen Series), or have a seriously impressive meal in your back pocket for dinner parties, U-Foodie caters to your every need while standing by their motto — “It’s just food, let’s make it fun!”
U-Foodie is located at 916 W. Burbank Blvd., Suite R. And for more information on classes and the schedule check out their website at u-foodie.com.
