Renowned pianist, composer and environmental advocate Oksana Kolesnikova, popularly known as the “people’s pianist,” is currently taking on another title just as inspiring. As founder of Oksana’s School of Music, Ms. Kolesnikova will be adding the role of teacher to her list of impressive credentials. Offering a balance in all facets of the performing arts from acting, dancing, and voice lessons all the way to mastering instruments such as the violin, guitar and, of course, piano, there is something for everyone. Dedicated to instilling that any goal can be accomplished through practice, Oksana notes that one of the greatest benefits of learning an instrument is that “it is like learning new languages; [students]learn a new way to communicate and express their emotions… [and]it’s never too late to start a new instrument…we have beginners in their sixties,” explains Oksana as she discusses the diversity both in knowledge and age of students ranging from three to ninety-two.
The unique ability of all instructors to tailor individual lessons as well as the depth at which they teach is most appealing. Whether it’s a student with a simple interest in learning the basics, a desire for more academic training in composition and theories or preparation for competitions, staff can effectively train students on a wide range of levels. And while there’s no doubt that every lesson is productive, Oksana describes her teaching style as “upbeat and motivational… [students]are always looking forward to their next lesson.”
The soon-to-be-implemented group sessions, as well as flexibility and affordability of scheduling, provide ample opportunity for students to take lessons as often as they would like, either at Oksana’s school located in Los Angeles or at the student’s home. Those without pianos are able to rent a keyboard on a regular basis for under $30.00 per month.
Students at Oksana’s School of Music have the chance to show-case their talents at the yearly recitals, held at Oakwood World-wide located at 3600 Barham Blvd. in the North Clubhouse – dates to be announced.
