A legendary rock’n’roll singer gets the spotlight with Roy Orbison Returns on Saturday, July 5th, at the El Portal Theatre. For one night only, the music pioneer returns, thanks to the authentic sounds of Wiley Ray and The Big O Band. The show is sure to delight Roy Orbison’s longtime fans and also introduce a new generation to his legacy of great songs.

“Roy Orbison was one of the greatest singers/songwriters,” says the talented Wiley Ray, who has been touring with The Big O Band for about ten years. “We present his best music with a live band. There’s also commentary and humor, along with some personal history of Roy. I’ve always felt that Roy Orbison has been underrated in rock’n’roll history. His rockabilly influence is even felt among music stars today.”

The theatrical concert will offer the emotional flavor of his songs such as “Only the Lonely,” “Crying Over You,” and “Blue Bayou.” There are the upbeat tunes too, like his biggest hit “Pretty Woman” (Wiley’s personal favorite). “We’re going to do his songs from the ’60s. But he was active for a long time, and we’ll cover from the ’50s to the ’80s with ‘Claudette’ from his early years and songs from the Traveling Wilburys.”

Roy Orbison’s music triumphed over his personal tragedies, and the audience will get to know how this entertainer came to have tremendous feeling in his voice. “I am not an impersonator. I am a person who sounds like him,” Wiley explains about his tribute performance. “I believe I have some qualities that he had, and I recreate the atmosphere of his concerts that will have people tapping their toes and feeling every lyric in every song.”
