Just when we think education is falling to the wayside, along comes a school that really is making a difference in young students’ lives. TheSan Fernando ValleyProfessionalSchool, renamed Brighton Hall, is moving into their facility at755 N. Whitnall Highway inBurbank.

Office Administrator Barbara Youngblood says, “We want to get the word out to the general public to let them know we are here: children who are working actors and actresses, which is the bulk of our student body, and the parents who want a more nurturing artistic environment.”

And about each classroom, “The students work in smaller classrooms and, as a result, receive a more attentive, think-outside-the-box teaching style … we use many different tools.”

With enrollment around 70 students from grades second through 12th, Barbara says, “Our new two-storyBurbanklocation is in a nice neighborhood, with facilities that are much larger and better for our student body.”

What makes this school really special? “Where we stand out apart from a lot of other schools is the creative elements our teachers bring into the classroom. Our teachers are trained to get through to the kids, make it exciting, to get them to want to learn. We are very flexible. Most schools cannot accommodate the flexibility that students may need because of acting/arts needs in general – like auditions,” Youngblood explains.

In this fast-paced world, children do need a place that fosters their talents. As Barbara puts it, “This school is not just actors: There are musicians, athletes, artists – anyone who is really in need of a flexible, understanding, professional environment. We do offer the standard college prep course as well … and are fully accredited by WASC.”
